Genesis 49:18 NKJV – Salvation of the Lord

I have waited for Your salvation, O Lord!

This brief prayer stands to say so very much.  God is the only Savior and deliverer of His people.  God’s work of salvation is inaugurated in the Old Testament and reaches its climax on the work of Jesus Christ.  Genesis 50:20 gives testimony to God as Savior and deliverer.  “But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”  God meant it for good is a classic statement of God’s sovereign overruling of human history to accomplish His gracious purposes.

The blessings of God, both spiritual and material, are to be enjoyed.  And blessing the Name of God is the appropriate response of believers for all that God has done for us.  God is the source of all blessing.  “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all.  Both riches and honor come from You and You reign over all.  In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.”  (1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NKJV)  Hallelujah!!!  Reading this out loud really places everything in the proper perspective.  (Note to self:  Memory verse)

All of God’s perfect qualities are made freely available to all and that includes salvation in the Name of Jesus.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV)  God’s work of salvation is accomplished supremely through the cross and resurrection of Jesus.  Jesus Christ’s total giving of Himself reveals God’s amazing love for sinners. It continues to motivate and inspire Christians today.

Jesus Christ is the complete Savior.  “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25 NKJV)  Jesus Christ demonstrates the qualities of compassion, acceptance, and generosity.  Eternal life is a gift of grace and mercy.  “But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:4-7 NKJV)

A central part of the ministry of Jesus Christ was His declaration that sins were forgiven based on faith in Him.  You might be asking, “But where do I start?  Where can I get the salvation you speak about?”  Well, it all starts with a prayer.  The desire to pray arises from an awareness of need that can only be met by God and demonstrates a trust in God.  ““I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you willask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” (John 15:5-8 NKJV)

Friend, the greatest single decision I have made in my life is when I called on the Name of the Lord and received salvation.  Jesus Christ is able to save to the uttermost those who come to Him.  (Hebrews 7:25 NKJV)  Would you like to make the decision of salvation?  Would you like to do that today?  Remember, it starts with a prayer and prayer is simply talking to God; humbly asking Him to hear you.  The choice is yours.

Dear Lord, I await Your salvation.  Lord, You are the only Savior and deliverer.  Lord, You demonstrate compassion, acceptance, and generosity.  Eternal life is a gift of Your grace and mercy.  I desire to make that choice today.  I believe in You, Jesus.  I realize that I am a sinner in need of a Savior.  I believe that You died for my sins and paid the price for all of them.  I believe that You rose from the grave to defeat my sin and death.  I believe in Your promise that whoever calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.  Come into my life Jesus and be my Savior.  I commit my life into Your hands.  Guide and direct me.  Cover and protect me.  I give You the praise, in Jesus Name.  AMEN

 Don’t believe me, believe God!
