James 5:14-15 NKJV – Prayer of faith

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.

While there is no “special” prayer of faith that has healing power, the foundation of healing is the power of trusting and believing an All Powerful and Faithful God.  It’s only through trusting and belief in Jesus Christ who gave His life and defeated sin, sickness, and even death, that the Power of God is applied to our prayers of faith.

Effective prayer always depends upon faith and the willingness to trust God’s faithfulness no matter what.  We must have faith to approach God in prayer.  “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV)

Faith is the way by which believers journey through the world.  Our faith must be focused on Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection.  Jesus Christ, Himself, is life.  “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJV)

As believers it is imperative that we pray not only for our own needs, but certainly for the needs of others.  As believers, we must value others.  “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4 NKJV)  The needs of others are not so different than our own.  And sometimes one of those needs is healing from sickness and disease.

Healing is defined as “Bringing about of a state of physical or spiritual health”.  Healing is often seen as the image of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Miraculous healing is by Jesus Christ.  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” (Luke 4:18 NKJV)

Friend, Jesus Christ’s authority over all things is given by God the Father. “The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.” (John 3:35 NKJV)  Jesus has authority over nature, over sin, over sickness, over evil and even over death.  The Name of Jesus is above every name.  Jesus is Lord of all creation.  Jesus is our Savior.  Jesus is our Redeemer.  Jesus is our Interceder.  Jesus is the promised deliverer who sets His people free.  And Jesus is our Healer.  Effective, fervent, believing prayer moves the hand of God.  When we pray for others as we pray for our own needs, let us put complete trust and faith in God that He not only hears our prayers, but will bring about an answer that is above and beyond our comprehension.  Because Scripture says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV)

Holy and Almighty God, thank You that prayers of faith move Your heart and Your hand.  Thank You that we can trust that You will hear and answer our prayers.  Holy Lord, I declare that my faith and trust is in You and You are over all things including sickness, disease, and even death.  In Jesus Name.  AMEN

Don’t believe me, believe God!
