I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Hope in God is founded in a total grounding of our confidence and expectation in God’s goodness and providential care in the face of all trouble. “So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.” (Hebrews 6:18 NLT) Now that’s a promise we can hold on to.
Sometimes we find ourselves needing a fresh infilling of the hope we have in God; a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Look here at what the psalmist says, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again – my Savior and my God!” (Psalm 42:5-6 NLT) Notice what he says here – “I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again” The psalmist has been here before. He is saying that he has struggled before and realized he needed a fresh touch from God. And where was he going to receive it? He received it in the midst of praise; in the midst of lifting up His God. I will tell you that he was not wrong. In my life if I feel the need for a fresh infilling of hope, of trust, of love, of regeneration, of renewal, I find myself first going to God in praise and worship. It is in the center of praise and worship where the Holy Spirit pours out those streams of living water to refresh us and renew us.
When God appears in His awesome power, those things, the enemies of God (sickness, disease, conflict, unforgiveness, strife, heartache, fear, sorrow, pain, sin) have reason to fear Him and flea as they will be destroyed. In the midst of praise and worship, God moves. When we worship the Lord, we are proclaiming that our love, our faith, our hope, our life is in His hands and that we are thankful that He loves us so much to care for us. If we can believe that worship, just like prayer, is an active response to the grace God pours out upon us, then we can embrace praise and worship as God deserves. “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!” (Psalm 105:1 NKJV)
Worship is turning to God in awe, praise and joy, as his people realize how wonderful He is. Prayer is a natural part of worship: to know God is to want to worship him and pray to him.
Friend, our source of hope is God. In no other place can we find hope. The hope of God is powered by the Holy Spirit. So when you find yourself needing a fresh infilling of hope, of trust, of love, of regeneration, of renewal, pray the foundational Scripture and simply insert your name and then thank God and believe His promise.
Heavenly God, thank You that You are our source of hope. Thank You that when we pray and worship You, we can expect a touch from Your Holy Spirit. There is no other place that we can find our hope. Only in You God, only in You! Forgive us when we try to place our hope in the things of this world. Return us back to You, O God. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Don’t believe me, believe God!
