For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
So if we are born of God, that is born again by the acceptance of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for our sin and His subsequent resurrection, we are victorious. Hallelujah!!! So why is it we are afraid of the unforeseen or unexplainable? Jesus Christ triumphs over and disarms all the powers of evil arrayed against Him. Believers are able to share in this victory through faith in Jesus Christ.
Overcome is defined as, “conquer problem; to struggle successfully against a difficulty or disadvantage; defeat somebody or something.” So by human definition, to overcome is to have victory. Should we not be looking at the spiritual essence of this verse and declare that we are overcomers? Jesus overcame all physical and spiritual forces against Him and has imparted this victory to us. Our faith in Him guarantees this victory.
What are the consequences of Jesus Christ’s victory? Well, number one, assurance for believers. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV) And second is what we have been talking about; Victory!!! “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57 NKJV)
Faith in the blessings of God is the confidence in the ability and willingness of God to act in supernatural power to advance His kingdom, and a commitment, expressed in prayer and action, to being the means by which He does so. The problem we often have with faith is we look at it through our own eyes and our own mind. We have no power to do anything. It’s God’s SUPERNATURAL power through His Son, JESUS and the HOLY SPIRIT that we can place our confidence in. “So Jesus said to then, “Because of your unbelief, for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 NKJV)
Friend, through our faith in Jesus, we, too, can overcome the world. We are more than conquerors in Christ. “Yet in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37 NKJV) In spiritual and physical warfare our victory is assured since Jesus Christ has already won it on the cross and in His resurrection. We will eventually share in Christ’s complete victory and through Him, can overcome.
Dear Lord, thank You that we have victory through You, Jesus!!! Thank You that You have overcome the world and the same victory awaits us as we place our faith in You and the promises of Your Word. Through our faith in You nothing can overcome us. May You Lord be glorified in our lives. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Don’t believe me, believe God!
