For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
There is only One Mediator who can speak for us to the Father. That Man is named Jesus. A name above all other Names. “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:8-11 NKJV) There is no one else who can stand with God and mediate for us. There is no one else who can testify on our behalf to God the Father. The One and Only Jesus Christ, who by being obedient even to the cross, died for our sin and rose from the grave, defeating sin and death once and for all.
There have been a few times in my life where I have had someone tell me “I got your back” or “I’m standing with you on this” only to find out I was standing alone. Man cannot give you any kind of guarantee. Man is fallible. Man can and will fail. We have all done that; gone back on a promise. But Jesus gave a promise to the Father when He said, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42 NKJV) Jesus, the One Mediator between God and men. Jesus, the One we can place our trust in. Jesus, the One who will never break a promise. Jesus, the One who is the Word. You don’t have to worry about His Word. He is the Word.
Jesus is the One who arbitrates between God and humanity and He reconciles them. In professional sports sometimes there needs to be an arbitrator who stands between the player and team management. The arbitrator’s job is to secure a fair and equitable financial deal where both the player and management can agree and live with the decision. It’s not always the best deal. There’s a lot of flaws in this process and rarely do either party get what they want. We have the ultimate arbitrator and His Name is Jesus. He stands between us and the Father and testifies of our faith and belief in Him and tells the Father of our acceptance of Jesus’ grace. The Father then gives us the ultimate reward; eternal life and more that we can ask or imagine. And in this case, there is Victory. No settling for less than the best or making the best “deal”. On no, not with faith in Jesus.
Friend, God’s work of salvation is accomplished supremely though the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through faith we are able to share in all the saving benefits won by Jesus Christ through His obedience to God. There is no need for us to place our trust in anything of man or the world. Our trust must be in the One Mediator, the Only Way. “Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJV)
Dear Jesus, thank You that You mediate for us to the Father. Thank You that You were obedient even to the cross and gave Yourself for us. Thank You Lord that You stand with the Father on our behalf. Help us Lord to always place our trust and hope in You. Teach us to stand firm on the truth of Your Word and not the fallible words of men. You are our Mediator. You are the Christ. We give You praise. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Don’t believe me, believe God!
