Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
As believers, we will suffer. Scripture does not teach that as believers we will be free from suffering. Suffering occurs and it is important that in the midst of the suffering we keep our eyes on God. “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22 NKJV) God shows concern for those who suffer especially those who are of His family. “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4 NKJV)
As believers, we should find encouragement from the loving care and faithful promises of God. Peace is a birthright of every believer in all circumstances. Peace is found only in God and is maintained through having a close relationship with Him. Peace in times of sickness, pressure or hardships. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NKJV) And peace in times of great grief and death. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3 NKJV)
God promises to renew us. When we suffer things, God is close by. He sees what we face. He feels what we feel. He awaits our cries to Him. He’s a close as a whisper. The renewal that God gives is a transformation. From suffering and grief to peace and renewal. And God is generous in His renewal. He is generous in bringing you out of your situation and into His glorious light. God has a generous heart and it is evident by His loving care. “Therefore humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7 NKJV)
Friend, we will face all sorts of things. Trials, afflictions, suffering, grief, but the Lord promises to deliver us from all of them. What do we need to do? Simply believe. Does God know what we face? Absolutely! And He loves and cares for you because you are His. You matter! Jeremiah 31:3 says, “The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.” God is our deliverer. When you find yourself wondering about the suffering you face, look to God’s Word. “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2 NKJV)
Dear Lord, sometimes our afflictions are more than we can bear. Sometimes when we suffer our eyes are turned away from you and on to what we face. But thanks be to God that You are our deliverer out of all our sufferings and afflictions. In You we can place our trust. Thank You Lord for Your abundant mercy and grace. How generous are You, O Lord. Forgive us Lord when our faith wanders and our belief is weak. You are our rock and fortress and deliverer. We will sing your praises. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Don’t believe me, believe God!
