1 Corinthians 2:5 NKJV – Where do you place your faith?

That your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

This Scripture is really an answer to the question, where do you place your faith? Our faith should be found in an all-powerful and gracious God; an omnipotent God. Faith in the world and in man can only disappoint because the talents, knowledge, strength, wisdom and leadership of man are finite. There is a limit to what man can do or know. But with God, there are no limits. “But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” (Mark 10:27 NKJV)

With man, nothing is for sure. There are things that keep man from perfection. As much as this world tries to convince us that it has everything for every need, the message is still flawed. In the world it’s all about a person’s standing in society in the sight of others. Status is what matters. The status of individuals in the sight of the world often differs radically from their status in the sight of God.

There was a time when I thought I had it all together. I thought I could take on the world. I thought that there was nothing that could touch me. But I was wrong. The result of many poor choices, all rooted in getting more and having more and wanting more, everything was stripped away from me. You see, back then it was all about me. You either had to keep up with me or get out of the way. I only learned how much my pattern of poor choices led to my physical and emotional well-being when I lost everything that mattered to me. Everything!

At the moment of my life when I had nothing left and the world had kicked me while I was down, I realized I needed to change. It was either a new life or die where I was. I was then introduced to God’s mercy and grace. The world and man had no mercy for me. I was a casualty. There was no grace. I was just like the others who failed. But God had an abundance of mercy and grace for me and all I had to do was submit myself to receive it.

God’s mercy and grace are qualities of God’s character by which He shows Himself compassionate, accepting, and generous to sinful man, shielding us from His wrath, forgiving us, and then bestowing upon us His righteousness so that we can live and grow in faith and obedience. God made known His grace and mercy when I was introduced to Jesus Christ. “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given to Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:16-17 NKJV) Did you get that? Grace and truth comes through Jesus Christ. The world and man are not filled with grace and truth. It’s only through Jesus can we receive these glorious benefits.

Jesus looked upon me with compassion; He accepted me as I was and was generous with His grace and mercy. So generous that He forgave my sin and cleansed me so that He could bestow upon me His righteousness. Grace and mercy defines the ministry of Jesus Christ. “But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.” (Acts 15:11 NKJV) and “Then Jesus said, ‘Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34 NKJV) Grace and Mercy.

Friend, where do you place your faith? Do you place your faith in the world and man or do you place your faith in the power of God? Our lives, from beginning to its end, is totally dependent on either the grace and mercy of man or upon the grace and mercy of God. It’s a choice we have to make. I will tell you that God has loved you since before the foundations of the world. He has always loved you, but He gives you a choice. God never forces His will upon anyone. I ask you today, what choice will you make? I once lived for the world and man. I no longer live that way. I now live as the apostle Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 NKJV) If you desire to choose Jesus, pray this prayer with me.

Dear Jesus. I no longer desire to live for the world and man. I desire to live a life through You, Jesus. I’ve made some poor choices and now want to walk and live for you. I am a sinner, but Lord I ask that you forgive my sins and come into my life. I submit my life to You. Thank You for loving me from the beginning of time. Pour out Your mercy and grace and cleanse me today. I desire to walk and live in the power of God. In Jesus Name. AMEN

Don’t believe me, believe God!
