1 Corinthians 1:30 NIV – How are you defined?

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

The world always wants to define us. The world will endeavor to define who you are. You are either cool or not. You are either in style or out of style. You are either at the top of the game or you are a loser. Well, I don’t place a lot of attention on what the world says about who I am. My identity is not determined by the world. My identity is in Christ Jesus.

My identity comes from the blood sacrifice of Jesus. On account of His death and resurrection, the demands of God’s law are met, and I am granted the status of being righteous in the sight of God. I’m probably not the only one who has been pushed around, shoved out of the way, kicked while I was hurting, and made a spectacle from someone else wanting to feel important. That’s the way of the world. Keep up or move out of the way. We all have been made an example of by the cruel and senseless world and the people wanting to make a name for themselves. Am I bitter? No. I’m not bitter. Because our identity is not determined by the world or those who live by the world’s ways.

Our justification through Jesus Christ, brings a changed relationship with God and a future hope. We don’t have to live for the world. What the world offers is nothing to what a relationship with Jesus offers. The results of our justification brings about peace with God, access to His presence, and the hope of His glory. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2 NIV)

We get the pressure from all around us. Sometimes our neighbors, sometimes our bosses, sometimes our co-workers. Sometimes it seems the entire world is against us. Well, I gotta tell you. The world is against us. “Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.” (1 John 3:13 NKJV) But thanks be to God, “Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:30-21 NKJV)

Friend, I know that the world is cruel and the people of the world can also be cruel. But ask yourself, “How am I defined?” We are not defined by any standard of the world. We are defined by our Lord and Savior, Jesus, who suffered and died for us and justified us in the sight of His Father. We are His sons and daughters. “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV)

Dear Lord, thank You that we are defined not as the world defines us, but through Your sacrifice and justification. We believe Lord that we are In Christ and not of this world. We humbly walk with You and not in the ways of the world. We don’t have to get into defending ourselves because You Lord are our defender. You will make our paths straight. You take care of Your own. Thank You Lord Your righteousness, holiness and redemption. In Jesus Name. AMEN

Don’t believe me, believe God!
