Titus 3:4-7 NKJV – Heirs according to the hope of eternal life

But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Regeneration is the new life that begins when a person comes to faith in Jesus Christ. Renewal is closely related to rebirth; it signifies the transformation of a person’s life that begins with regeneration. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV) Left to ourselves we could never stand righteous before God. We must be re-born with the righteousness of Christ upon us.

Heirs according to the hope of eternal life. It’s God’s purpose in extending His grace to sinners, not only to save us from eternal judgment, but to make us a part of His family and heir to all of His promises. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17 NKJV)

Heaven is where the children of God will reside for all eternity. Heaven is the secure inheritance, of priceless value, awaiting the redeemed. Believers will inherit the kingdom of heaven. “Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Matthew 25:34 NKJV)

Friend, believers are privileged to receive a spiritual inheritance from their Heavenly Father as a result of their adoption into the family of God through faith. Faith in the blood sacrifice for them by Jesus. We are heirs by grace. “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32 NKJV) Eternal life cannot be earned. No matter what we do or how hard we try, we will fail to measure up to earn eternal life. Eternal life must be received as a gift from God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NJV)

How does regeneration and rebirth start? It starts by faith in Jesus Christ and you begin by humbly seeking the Lord in prayer. Prayer isn’t anything complicated or cumbersome. Prayer is simply conversation. A two-way conversation between yourself and God. Yes, two-way. God listens and responds. There is no special prayer that will save you. I’ve said above that only faith in Jesus Christ and His grace can give you eternal life. No it’s not the words of a simple prayer. It is the belief that Jesus Christ died for your sins and paid the price for them once and for all when He rose from the grave. The question is, “Do you believe?” That’s the truth. You have a choice to believe in the sacrifice for you by Jesus or not. Prayer embraces God for who He is, thanking Him for what He has already done, and looking forward with joy to what He has promised to do in the future. Will you pray this prayer today?

Dear Jesus. I no longer desire to live for the world and man. I desire to live a life through You, Jesus. I’ve made some poor choices and now want to walk and live for you. I am a sinner, but Lord I ask that you forgive my sins and come into my life. I submit my life to You. Thank You for loving me from the beginning of time. Pour out Your mercy and grace and cleanse me today. I desire to walk and live in the power of God. In Jesus Name. AMEN

Don’t believe me, believe God!
