John 10:10 NKJV – Which life do you want?

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

The enemy is a thief of the worst kind. He comes against humanity with death on his mind. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The enemy cannot love. The enemy hates humanity. To steal means to take everything that you hold dear; steal your joy, your focus, your thoughts, your beliefs; your emotions. To kill means to murder all spiritual and psychological life within you. To destroy means to literally wipe you out.

But Jesus came to give you life. The life that Jesus gives is unique because it is eternal, and He gives this life in ever-growing abundance to His redeemed. Jesus Christ came to this earth for one purpose. “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10 NKJV) God’s work of salvation is accomplished through His Son, Jesus, death and resurrection. Through faith, believers are able to share in all the saving benefits won by Jesus Christ. That is eternal life. Jesus Christ is complete and we need no other way. “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25 NKJV) Uttermost refers to complete or comprehensive eternal salvation. Uttermost means “the greatest or of highest degree, quantity. The utmost”. Nothing else is needed but faith and belief that Jesus Christ paid the price for eternal life for you and me.

When we look at our Scripture we see the death and despair of the enemy and we also see the life and grace of our Almighty God. Our God, who gave us the only thing that could redeem us; the perfect and spotless Lamb, His Only begotten Son. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV)

We are constantly asked to believe in something. We are challenged to believe that our government leaders, whom we elect, will work for our benefit. We are challenged to believe that if we work hard, we can expect a pretty good future. We are challenged to believe that if I’m a good person, that’s all I need to do. We are challenged all the time. What about belief that your favorite sports team will win the championship? You can see where I’m going. Do any of the above items have any eternal value? I mean, does any of the above items cause you to think about what happens when you die? You certainly want to leave a legacy to your family, or I think you believe that’s important. Does our government promise a legacy? Does hard work promise you a life after you die? If being a good person is all you need to do, what about when you die?

Eternal life comes only One Way. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJV) Your government, your hard work, or you being a good person cannot earn you eternal life with God. It only comes by grace and faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ. At one time I didn’t believe that. But I have been reborn. I believe now. You might ask, “Why should I believe?” I don’t know. I asked that same question once. But when faced with eternal death or eternal life, I chose Jesus. His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead paid the price for my sin and death once and for all. His mercy forgave me and His blood covered me. Grace was given that I didn’t deserve. So ask yourself this, “Should I believe?” If you answer, “Yes. I think I should” then start with a prayer. Humble yourself and talk with God. That’s all prayer is you know. It’s conversation with the Lord. He will hear you and He will answer you. Take a few minutes and pray. Your eternity depends upon it.

Dear Jesus. I come because I just don’t know who to trust. I know that the world wants me to believe a lot of things. I just feel so confused. I’m told that I can come to You and seek You for the truth. I want to know the truth. I don’t want broken promises any more. Jesus, help me to understand who You are. Lead me to an understanding of eternal life through my faith and belief in You. Guide and direct my thoughts. In Jesus Name. AMEN

If you prayed this prayer and now ask yourself, “What’s next?” you need to contact a church in your area. A church whose foundation is the truth of the Word of God. Pray and ask God to direct you to that church. And then talk to someone there. Talk with the Pastor or a church leader. I am sure they would love to tell you more about Jesus. That’s exactly what I did over 14 years ago.

Don’t believe me, believe God!
