Luke 12:7 NKJV – His eye is always upon you

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

I am blessed almost every day with the realization of God’s incredible providence. How He cares for us, takes care of our needs, and gives us exactly what we need when we need it. I recall the song, “His Eye is on the Sparrow”. Especially the first verse, it says,

Why should I feel discouraged,

Why should the shadows come,

Why should my heart by lonely

And long for Heav’n and home?

When Jesus is my portion,

My constant Friend is He;

His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He cares for me;

His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He watches me.

There have been times when I felt the need for the understanding that God is watching over me. That He cares. Recently I experienced that thought, that feeling. I just needed to know that the God I serve, cared. And then He reminds me that He is faithful. He cares so much that every hair on my head has been numbered. He knows every detail of my life. He knows my fears, my struggles, my joy, and everything in between.

One day while at work, I felt so overwhelmed and out of touch that I just sat back in my chair. With a big sigh, I began to weep. It was a point where I just needed to know that God was near. I had no one at that instant of time who I could cry out to accept Jesus. And then He touched me. Not physically, but I knew He touched me because not too many minutes later my office phone rang. The person on the other side of the line told me that they were thinking of me and prayed for me. God is faithful. He loves and cares for me.

When we don’t think God is near, He is. When we don’t think He sees us as we are, He does. When we don’t think anyone can take what we face away from us, He delivers. When we think we have no way out, He leads us. When we don’t think anyone could care, He shows up and He touches us.

How is this related to prayer? I’ll tell you how. If God is in every part of our life that He knows exactly what we need and is faithful to provide it without any effort on our own, how is it possible that God would not answer every single prayer we pray? My friend, God’s eye is upon you and He will never turn away.

Let not your heart be troubled,

His tender word I hear,

And resting on His goodness,

I lose my doubts and fears;

Though by the path He leads me

But one step I may see:

His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He watches me;

His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He watches me.

Lord, I thank You for always keeping Your eye on me. Even when I don’t think that You are even near, Your faithfulness rises up and touches me. Help me Lord to always know that I can call on You and You will respond. Touch me Lord as many times as You desire. For within Your touch I am restored. In Jesus Name. Amen.

I sing because I’m happy,

I sing because I’m free,

For His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He watches me.

 Don’t believe me, believe God!
